Why You Shouldn’t Call It A Side Hustle
Side hustle: employment undertaken in addition to one’s full-time job.
The term “hustle” is often associated with “side hustles,” and those side gigs are often borne out of activities we enjoy or our passions (or both). But calling them “side hustles” implies that we don’t work as hard at those. It can also change our mindset and make us relegate it to second tier importance. It makes it easy to say “oh, it’s just my other gig.” And that doesn’t serve us.
I've been guilty of referring to faith and fitness group and my writing as my “side hustles”, but that isn’t accurate. I enjoy my day job, but those are the things I live for.
Our passions should just be our hustle.
When we stop calling the things we love a “side hustle,” we make them more of a priority in our lives. We should give the passions God has given us the priority they deserve. So, instead of a “side hustle”, let’s call it what it is: a job.
Did you make a second job out of your passion? What does that look like for you?
