“Without memory, there is no culture. Without memory, there would be no civilization, no society, no future.” — Elie Wiesel
Here in the States, today is Memorial Day. It’s a day we take to honor those who have lost their lives defending our country.
I will admit that when my husband decided to join the military, this exact thought was what created so much anger in me: the fear of death. I did not want him losing his life for a fight I didn’t really understand. Over time and through lots of prayer and tears at God, I realized that his choice was a noble one. And it became a choice I’m proud to support.
Every soldier has their own personal reason, but I found that each them believe in our country. We have to remember the sacrifices they made so we remember why we have the freedoms we do. They deserve honor.
So, today, Belle and I will be taking a hike, and I will thank God and our soldiers that I have the freedom to do that.
