When You Don't Want To Do It
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” — Matthew 22:21
What do you do when you’re asked to do something you’re pretty sure you don’t possess the skill set for? And then what do you do when you feel backed into a corner? Without going into too much detail, I was under the impression that something I was asked to do was just that, an ask. I was under the impression I had a choice. I found out today I didn’t. And the way it was presented to me felt threatening.
What do I do when I feel threatened and frustrated? I get very quiet. And I cry.
This time, I decided to take that all to God. As I was asking God what to do and why this was happening, the verse that popped into my head was “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s.” I have no doubt that was God reminding me of my responsibilities here and that if I give the situation to Him, He will do something incredible with it.
I tell Belle every day that I work hard so we can live life the way we want. I remind her—and myself—every day that we will get there eventually. This is my chance to prove that to the both of us.
It’s also my chance to really trust God. I can give purpose to this new situation if I look at it as a chance to glorify Him. He can give it—and me—purpose. Because the situation isn’t what gives purpose, it’s how it’s used. So I may be frustrated. Heck, I may be angry. But I won’t let that tear my sights away from my goals and my dreams. And I certainly won’t let it tear my sight away from my faith. God did not bring me this far only to make me figure it all out on my own.
And it’s the same for you. Whatever you are facing, give it to God. We cannot create purpose for something on our own. If we try, we will come up short and exhausted. But when we give it all to Him, He can do much more with it than we could imagine. We just have to stay in faith.
